PHC Group Inaugurates New Company “WEMEX Corporation”

PHC Holdings Corporation (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan, President & CEO: Shoji Miyazaki, hereafter PHCHD) established last year the Medical Information Systems (Medicom) Business Integration Preparatory Company^*1, which will absorb the Medicom Division from PHC Corporation and merge with PHC Medicom Corporation. We are pleased to announce that this Preparatory Company’s new name as Wemex Corporation (hereafter WEMEX). WEMEX will begin operations from April 1, 2023 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PHCHD.

The Healthcare IT business of PHC Group^*2, has driven the healthcare IT solutions in medical institutions and pharmacies since its launch of Japan’s first medical-receipt systems in 1972. The business contributes to today’s various healthcare field in Japan by enhancing the operational efficiency of healthcare professionals, improving the quality of healthcare and services provided to patients, and linking information across hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and patients to support collaboration with regional healthcare. The new company, WEMEX, will continue to sell Medicom products, which currently have the number one market share in Japan^*3, such as medical-receipt systems and electronic medical record systems for clinics. In addition, WEMEX will also develop the “Digital Health Solutions^*4” as a growth area of PHC Group’s business to further improve the efficiency of domestic medical care and strengthen the health management business.

The new company will enhance our ability to provide one-stop service from planning and development to sales to further contribute to the healthcare community. In addition, it is tended to accelerate the digital health solutions to respond promptly to changes in the market environment, such as government-led initiatives for digital transformation in healthcare, and will also strive to optimize the allocation of the company’s management resources including funds and human resources.

To provide a clear and distinct brand for WEMEX, PHCHD defined the company’s “Purpose” and “Values” on achieving this, as well as its symbolizing company name and logo.

The name WEMEX combines three ideas central to the company’s approach to healthcare technology. “WE” are the initial letters of the word “wellbeing,” which includes physical and mental health. “ME” comes from “medical care,” the company’s business area. Finally, “X” stands for multiplying, which shows how the company will combine those two elements.
