Wood Dale, IL, May 13, 2019 (Tokyo, October 3, 2018) – PHC Corporation of North America, a subsidiary of PHC Holdings Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, has announced that its -85° ultra-low temperature freezers from the VIP® ECO and TwinGuard® series have been awarded the Good Design Award 2018 presented by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
The two upright ultra-low freezer series deliver reliable and efficient long-term preservation to protect high-value samples and specimens for drug development and life science studies. The prizes were awarded based on product reliability and enhanced features such as door latch handle designed for one-hand ambidextrous opening and closing. Other award points include a high-visibility touchscreen control with safeguards to optimize operational security.
In addition, the environmentally conscious approach includes energy-saving operation made possible by natural refrigerants and unique inverter refrigeration compressors managed by exclusive on-board algorithms developed by PHC Corporation engineers.
Both freezer series increase sample storage efficiency by approximately 10%, preserving more samples within a similar footprint with previous models.
- The VIP ECO series has earned ENERGY STAR® certification and achieved a power consumption reduction by as much as 20%, making it one of the best performing ultra-low freezers in the world.
- The Twin Guard series minimizes risks for loss or damage to stored samples through a duo of redundant refrigeration systems, one complementing the other. This design will maintain an interior temperature of -70°, even if one refrigeration system should become disabled.
The VIP ECO and TwinGuard series ultra-low freezers were introduced at the Good Design Exhibition 2018 and later showcased at the Regenerative Medicine Japan 2018 meeting. Both freezers are now in widespread use through the USA and Canada and are available through PHC Corporation of North America.
