In line with the company's policy to contribute the local community development, PT PHC Indonesia periodically carried out Corporate Social Responsibility activities focusing on activity related to health improvement. This fiscal is third year of our CSR implementation and we already completed some activities as below
- Construction of toilet and hand washing facility at elementary school near to PHCI site
- Supporting local health organization activity by donating healthy meal for baby / toddler periodically and holding health seminar
- Increase sanitation performance of employee housing by spraying pesticides (to kill the pest) and holding pest control seminar
There are many elementary school near to PHCI site that have poor sanitation. Number of toilet is not equal with number of student. Each school just have toilet no more than 4 units covering for 300 students more. This condition has impact on smoothness of education process. Sometime students have to back home just for go to toilet. Head of school and teacher really hoped the support from government and other party to add the toilet number, but so far not realized yet. Beside toilet issue, there is no hand washing facility in each elementary school. The students get difficulty to wash their hand after doing something or if they want to eat. Indirectly this will impact on student’s health performance. Referring to above conditions PHCI initiated to give donation by building toilet and hand washing facility at elementary school that has poor sanitation. In this fiscal year donation is given to elementary school SDN Danau Indah 01 located around 3 km from PHCI. Ground breaking was done 28 February 2019 attended by Mr. Miyazaki (PHC President) and Mr. Maruhashi (PHC Director).
Second CSR activity that we done is supporting local health organization activity. There is Indonesia government direction that every village should have organization that has function to maintain and improve health of pregnant mother, baby and toddler as well. This organization called ‘POSYANDU’. The main activity is monitoring the baby/toddler development including their health, giving vitamin/food supplement, immunization program and education. Government health agency has responsibility to control and manage those activities. Realizing that this organization is very important for developing next generation, PHCI initiate to support the organization’s activities by donating ‘health meal’ (such as milk, biscuit) for baby/ toddler and holding health seminar periodically. Donation of health meal is done every month for 50 child, whereas for health seminar the last one was held on 7 January 2019 in collaboration with the doctor from ‘OMNI’ hospital.
Sanitation is become a common problem in every housing. Poor drainage system causing many water puddle in water canal lead to breed of mosquito faster, especially during transition period from dry season to wet season. One type of mosquito, called aedes agypty, is very dangerous. This mosquito can cause dengue fever which if not properly handle can cause fatality. The spreading of this disease also very fast. To anticipate this problem, PHCI initiate to do spraying of pesticides in employee housing to eradicate the mosquito. In this fiscal year, the activity is carried out at ‘Kartika Wanasari II’ housing on 19 January 2019, in collaboration with our pest control vendor PT Etos Indonusa. At that moment, we also held pest control seminar to increase the knowledge and awareness of community.
