TOKYO, December 9, 2021 – Medical Information Systems (Medicom) Division of PHC Corporation (hereafter, PHC), a leading provider of healthcare IT solutions for Japanese clinics, hospitals and pharmacies, today announced that it will offer Teladoc Health’s virtual care devices in Japan for the first time, allowing even small or remote medical facilities to provide critical specialty care amidst doctor shortages.
This partnership will expand the availability of Teladoc Health and its unique virtual care solution that allows on-site clinicians to connect with remote specialists. Virtual care is a valuable solution for meeting patient needs in the face of an aging population, increasing demand for medical care, and a pressing shortage of medical specialists*1. This technology is especially critical for perinatal and intensive care where specialists are required, as well as isolated locations with limited medical resources. PHC, which is part of global healthcare company PHC Holdings Corporation, will be non-exclusive distributor of the Teladoc Health devices in Japan.
Teladoc Health partners with more than 600 hospital and health systems globally. The products are designed to facilitate communication between onsite and remote clinicians. For instance, the Lite 4, one product in the line, interfaces seamlessly with on-site medical equipment such as electronic stethoscopes and has a high-resolution camera that can zoom up to 45x during a patient exam. The Teladoc Health system is HIPAA*2-compliant and meets strict security standards to protect patient information*3. In addition, PHC’s nation-wide service network provides customers with careful support in a timely manner to ensure smooth operation of the system.
Dr. Takayuki Kori, Representative Director of Asia Telemedicine Lab, who has used the Teladoc Health system, said, “I’m usually only able to receive details of the patient’s condition over the phone when asked for help. With Teladoc Health, images can be shared enabling real-time observation of patients. There is a dramatic increase in medical information we can refer to as we monitor patients remotely. It’s as if you are examining the patient on the spot.”
Takayuki Otsuka, Corporate Officer and co-head of the Healthcare Solutions Domain of PHC Holdings Corporation said, “Since launching Japan’s first medical-receipt computer in 1972, we have worked to expand the healthcare IT business and provide best-in-class electronic medical record systems for the clinic market in Japan. This partnership with Teladoc Health will expand our services for telemedicine to help strengthen healthcare professionals’ teamwork and provide better medical care and treatment to patients in a speedy manner.”
